Karna Gupta Chief Executive Officer In January of 2008, Karna Gupta was named CEO and a member of the Board of Directors of Certicom. Mr. Gupta brings with him 27 years of high-tech experience both in public and private companies. Prior to his appointment at Certicom, Mr. Gupta held the role of President for the Real-Time Billing Division of Comverse Technologies in New Jersey. In this role, he had the responsibility for the setting the strategic direction of the Billing Division and managing a globally-distributed workforce and serving a global customer base. His previous role in Comverse was Chief Marketing Officer for Comverse Americas. Mr. Gupta also held several executive leadership positions with Bell Canada, including Vice President, Product Development and Management.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Master of Business Administration degree in Marketing and Finance from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec. He has also attended executive development programs at Duke University, Harvard/MIT and the University of Western Ontario.
Hervé Séguin Chief Financial Officer Hervé Séguin was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Certicom in April of 2002. He holds the responsibility of ensuring the financial stability of the company, as well as maintaining positive relationships with the investment community.
Séguin has over 25 years in the high tech industry with extensive senior financial management and operations experience in transition and growth management, fund raising and strategic planning. Before joining Certicom, Séguin held the role of CFO with a number of high technology companies. At DWL Incorporated, a CRM software development company, he completed the largest cross-border high technology private financing in Canada in 2001. As CFO of InfoCast Corporation, a U.S. publicly traded Internet infrastructure company, he transitioned the organization to a new business model and raised equity in a bear market. Prior to InfoCast, Séguin spent six years as CFO of Promis Systems Corporation (TSE: PSW). During his tenure at Promis, he orchestrated several rounds of public equity financings and was awarded a prestigious Investor Relations Magazine Award. Hervé Séguin is a Certified General Accountant and a Certified Management Accountant.
Frank Cotter Vice President Business Planning & Business Operations Frank brings with him extensive experience in hi-tech arena. He has over 20 years experience in private and public companies, including as a Venture Partner at Mosaic Venture Partners, specializing in early stage technology company investments, where he assumed senior operating roles in investee companies. He was also Vice-President of Business Development at Bell Canada. Earlier, as President of Rogers High Speed Internet, he was the driving force behind cable high speed Internet. Frank has a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Queens University. Dr. Scott A. Vanstone Founder and Executive Vice-President, Strategic Technology One of the founders of Certicom, Dr. Vanstone is also a Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Waterloo. Dr. Vanstone devotes much of his research to the efficient implementation of the elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) for the provision of information security services in handheld computers, smart cards, wireless devices, and integrated circuits. He is the EVP Strategic Technology for Certicom and oversees all research, which has generated over 350 patents for the company. He also sits on the Board of Directors for Certicom. Dr. Vanstone has published more than 250 research papers and a number of books on topics such as cryptography, coding theory, finite fields, finite geometry, and combinatorial designs. He is a co-author of the Handbook of Applied Cryptography and more recently, A Guide to Elliptic Curve Cryptography. Dr. Vanstone also holds the NSERC/Pitney Bowes Senior Chair of Cryptography at the University of Waterloo. In 1998, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, Academy of Sciences. Scott Vanstone has a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Waterloo and recently received the University’s prestigious award for Excellence in Research. Bill Lattin Chief Technology Officer
As Chief Technology Officer, Bill Lattin is responsible for leading Certicom's technology strategy. He works with the company's engineering, sales and product management teams to support the launch of new products and solutions. He also plays a key role in Certicom's standardization and intellectual property initiatives. During the past nine years, Mr. Lattin was the managing director of SecureField, an information security consultancy that specializes in cryptographic product design and network security. Prior to SecureField, he was vice president and co-founder of Cylink Corporation, a data encryption company that served the global 500 market where he was responsible for cryptosystem architecture design, technology marketing, product management and standards development for the manufacturing, healthcare and financial markets. He has been an active participant in the development of many of the ANSI cryptographic standards and is chair of the Standards for Efficient Cryptography Group (SECG), an industry consortium that develops commercial standards to facilitate the adoption of efficient cryptography and interoperability across a wide range of computing platforms. Mr. Lattin holds a BSEE and an MSEE from Stanford University and UC Santa Barbara respectively. He is also a CISSP. Ross Bennett Vice-President, Product Development  |
As Certicom VP of Product Development, Ross Bennett is responsible for all product development activities for Certicom product lines. Bennett comes with 15 years of experience in the development and deployment of high assurance data communications solutions for the wireless industry. He has been a key member of the Certicom engineering organization for the past two years, and played an important role in the successful launch of several award-winning Certicom products. Prior to joining Certicom, he held a variety of management positions with high technology companies in Canada. He was a member of Excaliber Inc. an IT strategy and professional services organization engaged in the deployment of high end CRM solutions, where he lead highly functional project implementation teams. Previous to Excaliber, he held a wide variety of positions with Mobile Computing Corporation, a company that develops and implements wireless information management systems for the transportation industry.
